You can hear the podcast here here, and check out the text of the interview on their Wave blog.

Colectivo Bunka is a very cool organization, with the unusual mission of promoting Asian music in Colombia and throughout Latin America. They have a tv show, a radio show on Saturday afternoons, and a blog, and if you explore their website a bit you will find that they have done interviews with a number of other New York-based bands as well as with our friends RE-OG from Los Angeles.

Muchas gracias to everyone at Colectivo Bunka. Please show them some love! peace.

Hey guys,

I just wanted to let you all know that we have begun recording the drum tracks. Thursday night was the first day, and I’d have to say it went pretty smooth. We did a few tries on each song and kept the good ones

Ever since my first recording experience, I’ve always loved to record with the whole band rather than doing it with just a drummer and the guitar player…it gives us more of that live experience, although of course we have to play to a tempo map that Gun made before the process began.

This time we decided to work with John Meredith in studio in Mollusk Studios in Brooklyn. The vibe is good, it makes us feel like we are recording at home We managed to stay right on schedule without rushing, and finished up the drums by Saturday night.

Back to our musical direction: having Cipta Gun and Daisuke on board really adds so much flavor and yet we still keep the heaviness of Suaka. We are incorporating groove, feel good melodies, and all those rocking riffs. There’s one song called “Era Baru” (“new era”) that uses an indigenous melody from Padang (West Sumatra) – ding ding ba ding ding :) – on the choruses. The rest is just various killer riffs cooked up all in one song…

Before I go I just want to say we miss you Robin Hutagaol dearly. Also I would like to mention that late Robin’s mother passed away recently, may they both rest in peace.

Many things have happened around the process of making this album. We dedicate the song called “Treasure” to Robin Hutagaol and family, and to everyone who has had the same experience. Let’s treasure the great moments and enjoy living while God still gives us time to do good things in life….

We will keep you updated. May God guide Us All.

Love and Respect,
Roots Rockmat of Suaka

Sunday was the first practice in the new studio – which could apparently be heard from several blocks away! Oops. At least it’s not really a residential neighborhood; here’s hoping that the people who DO live in the area like metal. The new space is actually bigger than Stonedeaf and the walls are still pretty bare except for a couple of pieces of soundproofing foam and the Suaka banner hanging triumphantly over the drum kit. Adding additional material to absorb sound should help matters immensely. The building itself is still under renovation, and we took advantage of the awesomely industrial setting to shoot some promo photos.

The new songs are really starting to come together. Now it’s time to focus and get ready for recording this fall. A couple of other interesting possibilities are on the horizon but nothing is confirmed yet, so check back soon for updates.

Peace.

Summer is here again.

We have been working with our new drummer Daisuke. So far is working out good. Just letting new ideas flow.

However, due to increasing rent, Stonedeaf’s bosses Gun & Kiki decided to find a new studio. They found it somewhere in Bushwick Brooklyn. The building is used to be beer brewery factory that somehow the owner turned the place into a rehearsal space. According to the owner, soon he will build a venue which great for all the Brooklyn music community.

Meanwhile Kiki and Gun is building a new recording studio hopefully will be ready by September. Suaka is currently practicing in underground studio Astoria Queens (shared by Goro & Uzuhi). The upcoming event is June 21. Suaka will be playing in Lyceum Brooklyn New York ( thanx to Gun for getting the gig).

Details will follow soon. Cheers.

Almost forget, this is the eight stringer i always talking about. See you at the gigs.
